I believe that therapy is a process of self-discovery, growth and change and that an authentic, trusting relationship between client and therapist is one of the most important elements in the process. My personal style is empathic, warm, and interactive. I focus on clients' strength and potential, assisting them in defining and working toward their own goals and deepening their sense of self worth. Often clients come to therapy troubled by feelings or behavior they don't understand, and wish to change. My goal is to help clients make sense of their experience and discover new choices and options that can lead to an enhanced ability to find joy and meaning in life. I have training and experience in long term, in-depth therapy, family therapy, and brief focused therapy. I sometimes use guided imagery, dream work, art therapy, and Gestalt techniques such as role-play to help access nonverbal feelings and experiences. I have special interest in working with couples, women's issues, young adults, life transitions, adult children of dysfunctional families, and chronic illness. I speak Spanish and enjoy working with Spanish-speaking clients.
